Manchester United sets U.S./MLS tour

Manchester United has announced this summer’s U.S. tour sites and opponents (times are Eastern, TV to be determined):

July 13: New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium, 8 p.m.

July 20: Seattle Sounders at Qwest Field, 10 p.m.

July 23: Chicago Fire at Soldier Field, 8 p.m.

July 27: MLS all-stars at Red Bull Arena (Harrison, N.J.), 8:30 p.m.

July 30: FC Barcelona at FedEx Field (Landover, Md.), 7 p.m.

“Tours are a fantastic chance for the players to get away as a unit, to put in some good training sessions and to meet some of our fans around the world who don’t have a chance to watch us play live every week,” United Manager Alex Ferguson said. “Our visits to the U.S. are always enjoyable ones. The training facilities are excellent and we certainly found last year that, with the improving quality of the MLS teams, the games are very competitive, which is great preparation for a new season. To finish off with a match against Barcelona will be a special moment for all our fans in the States.”

Tickets for the FedEx Field match will go on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster in late April. For D.C. United season ticket holders, this game is included in the package as “Special Game C.” Redskins suite and premium season ticket holders will have priority access to purchase seats.
