MLS playoff schedule takes shape: New York Red Bulls at FC Dallas, Columbus Crew at Colorado Rapids in wild-card round

MLS implements its new playoff format mid-week with two single-game wild-card matchups, followed by the start of home-and-home conference semifinals this weekend.

WEDNESDAY

New York Red Bulls (10-8-16, 46 points) at FC Dallas (15-12-7, 52), 9 p.m. ET

TV: Fox Soccer Channel, TSN2 (Canada).

Season series: 2-2 draw at New York, 1-0 N.Y. win at Dallas.

Last 5 matches: N.Y. 3-1-1, FCD 2-3-0.

Prediction: Red Bulls, 2-1.

THURSDAY

Columbus Crew (13-13-8, 47 points) at Colorado Rapids (12-9-13, 49), 10 p.m. ET

TV: Altitude 2 (Denver), ONN (Columbus), TSN2 (Canada), Direct Kick, MatchDay Live.

Season series: 4-1 Crew win at Columbus, 2-0 Rapids win at Colorado.

Last 5 matches: Columbus 2-3-0, Colorado 2-1-2.

Prediction: Rapids, 1-0.

CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

The wild-card winners will determine who top seeds Sporting Kansas City and the Los Angeles Galaxy will play. If New York advances, the Red Bulls, the lowest seeds, will face the Galaxy. The No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchups are set:

Houston Dynamo vs. Philadelphia Union, starting Sunday at PPL Park

Seattle Sounders vs. Real Salt Lake, starting Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium
