MLS playoff schedule, TV info, predictions

So after a rather uneventful wild-card round in front of sparse mid-week crowds, the MLS playoffs head into the conference semifinals with four first-leg matches this weekend. My predictions for the wild cards were accurate — New York Red Bulls winning at FC Dallas, Colorado Rapids holding off Columbus Crew at home — but I must admit I don’t have nearly as much confidence in my two-leg series picks:

WESTERN

Los Angeles Galaxy vs. New York Red Bulls

Season series: 1-1 at L.A., 2-0 N.Y. at home.

First leg: Sunday at Red Bull Arena, 3 p.m. ET

TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com

Announcers: Adrian Healey, John Harkes.

Second leg: Thursday at Home Depot Center, 11 p.m.

TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com

Announcers: Ian Darke, John Harkes.

Prediction: 1-1 in 1st leg, 2-0 Galaxy in 2nd leg (3-1 aggregate).

Seattle Sounders vs. Real Salt Lake

Season series: Each club won 2-1 away.

First leg: Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium, 10 p.m. ET.

TV: Fox Soccer.

Second leg: Wednesday at CenturyLink Field, 10 p.m.

TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com.

Announcers: Adrian Healey, John Harkes.

Prediction: 1-1 in 1st leg, 2-1 Sounders in 2nd leg (3-2 aggregate).

EASTERN

Sporting Kansas City vs. Colorado Rapids

Season series: 1-1 at Colorado, 1-1 at K.C.

First leg: Sunday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, 7 p.m. ET.

TV: Fox Soccer.

Second leg: Wednesday at Livestrong Sporting Park, 8 p.m.

TV: Fox Soccer.

Prediction: 0-0 in 1st leg, 3-1 Sporting in 2nd leg (2-0 aggregate).

Houston Dynamo vs. Philadelphia Union

Season series: 1-0 Union at Houston, 1-1 at Philadelphia.

First leg: Sunday at PPL Park, 5 p.m. ET.

TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com.

Announcers: Rob Stone, Taylor Twellman.

Second leg: Thursday at Robertson Stadium, 8:30.

TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com.

Announcers: Adrian Healey, Taylor Twellman.

Prediction: 1-0 Dynamo in 1st leg, 1-0 Union in 2nd leg, Union on PKs.
