For those precious few of you who still have power after Friday night’s destructive storm, some reading material leading to D.C. United’s MLS match against the Montreal Impact at RFK Stadium:
*Dwayne De Rosario tweeted from his home in Bethesda: “Not sure what kind of storm hit last night but still have no power and trees are all over the place”
*Here’s the unstable game-time forecast from the exhausted Capital Weather Gang: .
*My formal story about Branko Boskovic re-signing with United.
*Local TV: Comcast SportsNet at 7:30 ET with Dave Johnson and University of Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski in the booth.
*United (30 points) retained a share of first place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Red Bulls, thanks to Sporting Kansas City’s 1-0 home loss to the Chicago Fire last night. K.C. is stuck on 29 points and the Fire is up to 27.
*Montreal midfielder Patrice Bernier (three goals, team-best five assists) won’t play tonight after being suspended by MLS for a late-game, reckless challenge in Wednesday’s loss to Toronto FC.
*United’s reserve match against Montreal on Sunday morning has been postponed because of Impact injuries. So instead, DCU’s reserve unit will face DCU’s under-23 squad, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the RFK training grounds. Admission is free. The reserve game against Philadelphia next week was also postponed because the Union is preparing for the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.
*What ever happened to former DCU star Christian Gomez, age 37? He’s back in his native Argentina, trying to steer Nueva Chicago to promotion into the second division. In the first leg against Chacarita Juniors, the last-place club in the second divisions, he played 81 minutes and assisted on the only goal of the match. The second leg is today. Gomez has nine goals this season.
