Tuesday kickaround: D.C. United, MLS playoffs, African Cup of Nations, UEFA Champions League

D.C. United’s season ended more than a week ago, but the work continues. Players will train at RFK Stadium for the next three weeks before beginning winter break.

Dwayne De Rosario is readying himself for Canadian national team duty and the final two matches of second-round group play in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying Nov. 11-15.

Clyde Simms is recovering from what was officially diagnosed as a concussion in the season finale against Sporting Kansas City. He became the sixth DCU player to suffer such an injury this year, joining Devon McTavish, Kurt Morsink, Brandon Barklage, Santino Quaranta and Blake Brettschneider.

United also has two reserve division matches to play, at Columbus and New York, but it’s unclear whether those will be rescheduled after postponements during the season.

United announced the team award winners: De Rosario MVP, Perry Kitchen defender of the year, Morsink coaches’ award and Barklage humanitarian of the year. De Rosario, meantime, is hoping to finalize a new contract with DCU soon.
