U.S. men’s national soccer team to play Ecuador in friendly at Red Bull Arena

September 13, 2011

The U.S. men’s national soccer team has played at Giants Stadium, the new Meadowlands stadium, even Rutgers University. Now a new venue in northern New Jersey will be utilized: Red Bull Arena.

More than a year since the 25,000-seat venue opened, the Americans will pay their first visit to Harrison on Oct. 11 for a friendly against Ecuador. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET. ESPN2, Univision and ESPN3.com will provide live coverage.

The RBA visit will come three days after a friendly against Honduras in Miami. Both matches fall in the FIFA fixture window, meaning clubs are obligated to release players. However, for friendlies, compromises are typically reached to allow players to skip matches. U.S. Coach Juergen Klinsmann, winless in his first three matches with one goal scored, is expected to continue experimenting with a blend of veterans and new players.

The U.S. Soccer Federation is also in the process of setting opponents for two FIFA fixture dates in mid-November. Both games are likely to be played in Europe.
