Wednesday kickaround: D.C. United’s Ethan White, MLS matches, Portland’s stadium, Americans abroad, TV listings

*Defender Ethan White grew up in the Washington area, attended D.C. United matches, starred at a local high school (Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and university (Maryland) and passed through United’s youth academy before signing a homegrown contract in December. Last week, he started two matches. This is his story.

*United’s next opponent, Toronto FC, will face United’s previous opponent, the Los Angeles Galaxy, Wednesday night at BMO Field (8 p.m. ET, Direct Kick, MatchDay Live). After sitting out Saturday, will Landon Donovan play for the Galaxy? I’m guessing he’ll rest until Sunday at Chicago.

Meantime, the Rocky Mountain Cup resumes Wednesday with a meeting between the past two MLS Cup champions, Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids, at Rio Tinto Stadium (9 p.m., DK, MDL).

In Portland, the Timbers are eager to make their MLS home debut Thursday (11 p.m., ESPN2) against the Chicago Fire. Watch the Oregonian video:
