We’ve got a match today.
To get it started…..
*My formal story from the print edition setting the scene.
*My Post colleagues have assembled a photo gallery from yesterday’s workouts.
*Weather outlook at kickoff: 86 degrees, 70 percent humidity, 11-mph wind, 20 percent chance of rain.
*TV: beIN Sport and beIN Sport Spanish, starting at 4 p.m. ET. Available on DirecTV, DISH Network and many Comcast and Time-Warner cable carriers. Both channels will show a replay at 11 p.m. For streaming video, you are on your pirating own. For all TV and online listings, click here.
*Referee: Walter Quesada (Costa Rica).
*Suspended for next match with yellow card: Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Maurice Edu, Fabian Johnson and Graham Zusi. Yes, cards carried over from the previous round. In a long qualifying process, that rule needs to change.
*USSF President Sunil Gulati says he expects Landon Donovan to return to the fold at some point. He said he had dinner with Donovan a few weeks ago but declined to share details of the conversation.
*Gulati said the USSF is likely to end up playing all five home qualifiers in MLS markets, four at soccer-specific stadiums. Denver/DSG Park is already set for the March match against Costa Rica. He wouldn’t discuss the other options, but Kansas City, Columbus, Salt Lake City and Seattle are my guesses. If that occurs, the East Coast and California would be left out.
Remember: the USSF sets these venues that provide the best situation for the team. Fan make-up is a big part of the equation, and in smaller stadiums in the interior of the country, crowd support traditionally is overwhelming American.
