D.C. United at Columbus Crew

Greetings from central Ohio, where D.C. United will seek its first goal on the road this season following three empty performances. The Crew is unbeaten in 11 straight at home (7-0-4).

As you know by now, Chris Pontius is not here, sidelined with a groin injury suffered in training this week. He will undergo an MRI exam in the coming days. Best-case scenario: He is available in reserve for the next match, which isn’t until May 8 against the Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium. Worse-case scenario: He is out until the May 19 home game against Sporting Kansas City. The club will have a better idea after further medical tests.

My print-online story looks at the Pontius injury and United’s general state of despair.

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET.

TV: No standard coverage in the Washington area. Direct Kick and MLS Live pay packages will carry the game. Fox Sports Ohio will handle in-market coverage.

Game-time weather: 69 degrees, 0 percent chance of rain, light breeze.

Referee: Sorin Stoica.

Road trip cuisine: Cancelled due to a three-hour flight delay. (Should’ve walked.) The Angry Baker in Old Towne East will have to wait until the USA-Mexico qualifier here in September.

Road trip lyrics: In salute to Little Feat’s live masterpiece, “Waiting for Columbus,” these words from “All That You Dream” seemed appropriate for DCU:

Rainy days they turn to sunny ones
Livin’ the life, livin’ the life lovin’ everyone
I’ve been down, but not like this before
Can’t be ’round this kind of show no more

Lineups and subs to come about an hour before kickoff…..

DCU: Hamid; Korb, McDonald, Jakovic, Woolard; Sanchez, Kitchen, Augusto, Porter; De Rosario, Pajoy. Subs: Willis, White, Riley, Kemp, Saragosa, Ruiz, Rafael.

CLB: Gruenebaum; Williams, Marshall, Glauber, Viana; Oduro, O’Rourke, Tchani, Gaven; Higuain, Arrieta. Subs: Lampson, Wahl, Sanchez, Warzycha, Speas, Finlay, Finley.
