D.C. United news and notes

*D.C. United Coach Ben Olsen will not say for sure whether Chris Pontius will suit up for Wednesday’s match against the Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium, but reading between the lines, the club seems to be leaning toward waiting until the weekend.

“We’re still evaluating,” Olsen said. With a quick turnaround before Saturday’s game at Dallas, “We have to gauge that a little bit.”

Pontius has missed one game since straining a groin muscle.

“I have made a lot of progress and I’m happy where I stand,” he said. “Tomorrow is still up in the air but the weekend definitely, for sure.”

*Midfielder Nick DeLeon‘s outlook is more promising after sitting out four games and six weeks with a hamstring injury. Although DeLeon lacks match fitness and is not ready to start, Olsen plans to include him on the game-day roster for possible second-half help.

*Forward Casey Townsend, on loan to the third-division Richmond Kickers, is also set for the game-day roster, Olsen said. The other four players on assignment with Richmond trained with United the past few days but are not expected to make Wednesday’s list.
