D.C. United at FC Dallas

dculogoYou are not in Frisco, and neither am I.

Two reasons I skipped this Texas trip:

Conserve the travel budget ahead of the U.S. national team’s heavy summer calendar.

Given D.C. United’s record, it’s getting harder to justify covering this club on the road.

So I will watch on Comcast SportsNet, beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET, and file a short story for the print edition from the comforts of home (while keeping an eye on the Washington Spirit’s live stream).

Ben Olsen promised lineup changes — in part because of United is playing for the second time in four days, but in larger part because nothing is working for one-win DCU. In all, he inserted five new starters: Joe Willis in goal, Ethan White and James Riley on the backline, Nick DeLeon in midfield and Casey Townsend at striker.

Chris Pontius, whom was expected to return this week, was held out as a precaution after recovering from a groin injury. Carlos Ruiz was left off the 18-man roster.

DCU: Willis; Korb, White, Jakovic, Riley; Porter, Kitchen, Augusto, DeLeon; De Rosario, Townsend. Subs:  Hamid, McDonald, Woolard, Kemp, Sanchez, Pajoy, Rafael.

FCD: Seitz; Benitez, Hedges, Woodberry, Loyd; Michel, Jackson, Watson, Castillo; Perez, Hassli. Subs: Fernandez, Keel, Acosta, Zimmerman, Warshaw, Nunez, Cooper.
