United, which has not won in league play since early March, advanced to a June 26 quarterfinal against the New England Revolution at SoccerPlex. The Revs defeated the New York Red Bulls, 4-2, at Harvard.
“There’s a silent confidence about us that we can get out of this thing, and now’s the time,” Coach Ben Olsen said. “It’s nice to be continuing in the Cup, but we need to start performing in this way in the regular season, and that starts this weekend against Toronto.”
Chris Pontius left the match with a head injury.
“He told me he didn’t have a concussion, but I’m not buying it for a second,” Olsen said. “He didn’t look so hot, so we’ll get all the testing done and see where he’s at.”
