U.S. secures Gold Cup quarterfinal berth

The U.S. national team is headed to Baltimore.

With a 4-1 comeback victory over Cuba today, the Americans (2-0-0, six points) clinched a CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal slot at M&T Bank Stadium in Charm City next Sunday (4 or 7 p.m. ET). Costa Rica (six points) also secured passage to Baltimore with a 1-0 win over Belize.

The Americans and Ticos will cap the group stage Tuesday at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. (8 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer, UniMas), then set up camp in the Baltimore area leading to their respective quarterfinal matches against opponents to be determined. The Americans have won seven consecutive games, tying a program record set six years ago en route to the 2007 Gold Cup title. The scoring margin over the past six weeks is 25-6:

Germany, 4-3 (friendly in Washington)

Jamaica, 2-1 (World Cup qualifier in Kingston)

Panama, 2-0 (WCQ in Seattle)

Honduras, 1-0 (WCQ in Sandy, Utah)

Guatemala, 6-0 (friendly in San Diego)
