*Mexico played well for a change: a 4-1 victory over Ivory Coast in a friendly before 35,000+ at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. Video:
*Leftovers from the United States’ 4-3 victory at Bosnia and Herzegovina:
Juergen Klinsmann: “It’s good for the guys to see we can come to Europe and we’re not here to defend, we’re here to play eye to eye. I think everybody here in Bosnia saw that the second half we dictated the tempo and kept the rhythm going.”
The USSF is planning to arrange two additional friendlies in Europe during FIFA’s fixture window in November.
With 12 consecutive victories, the Americans are tied for the seventh-longest winning streak in men’s history. Spain (2008-09) holds the record with 15, a run ended by the Americans at the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa. To surpass La Roja’s mark, Klinsmann’s bunch would have to sweep the final four World Cup qualifiers in September-October: at Costa Rica, home against Mexico and Jamaica, and at Panama.
The next two qualifiers:
Sept. 6 at Costa Rica in San Jose, 10 p.m. ET (beIN Sport)
Sept. 10 vs. Mexico in Columbus, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
*The Richmond Kickers clinched first place and home-field advantage throughout the USL Pro playoffs with a 2-0 victory over Orlando City in front of nearly 5,000 in the Virginia capital. The Kickers (15-1-9, 54 points) will conclude the third-division regular season at Pittsburgh on Saturday, then host a quarterfinal against the No. 8 seed the following weekend at City Stadium. Orlando City (15-4-6, 51) is the second seed.
*D.C. United’s latest trialists:
Canadian midfielder Stefan Cebara, 22, from Slovenian club Celje.
American midfielder-defender R.J. Allen, a 2012 draft pick of Chivas USA from Monmouth University. He has played for Danish side Skive.
United’s Luis Silva, who missed last weekend’s visit to Philadelphia with a head injury, has been cleared to train and should be in the mix for Saturday’s trip to Montreal.
*Washington Spirit defender Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris will play for Swedish club Tyreso this fall, joining Americans Christen Press (14 goals) and Meghan Klingenberg, as well as Brazilian superstar Marta. Tyreso is tied for first after 13 of 22 matches.
The Spirit will conclude the NWSL season this Sunday against Sky Blue FC at Maryland SoccerPlex. Krieger and Harris are candidates for selection for the U.S. national team’s friendly against Mexico on Sept. 3 at RFK Stadium.
