*The announcement of the U.S. national team roster for the final two World Cup qualifiers will have to wait until the weekend. Juergen Klinsmann had hoped to reveal the list today, but injuries have complicated the selections. Players will begin gathering in Kansas City on Sunday and Monday ahead of the Oct. 11 match against Jamaica at Sporting Park.

Michael Bradley, returning from an ankle sprain, and John Brooks, who injured his arm last week, have already been scratched.

Although the Americans have secured a World Cup berth, Klinsmann wants to call in as many top-tier players as possible for the Jamaica game and the Oct. 15 visit to Panama. He wants to use the few FIFA fixture dates between now and the World Cup to continue building chemistry ahead of Brazil next summer.

Visiting Salt Lake City for the U.S. Open Cup final, Klinsmann said he will not allow MLS matches during the fixture window to sway his roster selections.

“We see the busy schedule MLS is going through, but it makes no difference. This is World Cup qualifying. We want to end it on a very high note. We are going to call in the guys we believe in.”

The U.S. team will face Scotland and probably Austria on FIFA dates in the middle of next month. Klinsmann is expected to call on players primarily from European clubs, although MLS players whose seasons are complete will figure in the plans as well.

*The U.S. women’s roster for three friendlies this month is set, with a few wrinkles. Tom Sermanni appointed 25 players, with several shuttling in and out during the two-week period. For example, the majority of the European-based players will miss the Oct. 20 match against Australia in San Antonio because of club commitments. College players Crystal Dunn and Morgan Brian will skip two of the three friendlies to compete for North Carolina and Virginia, respectively. Full details are available here.

*Not a national team item, but USSF related …
