Goalkeeper Bill Hamid is on pace to return to D.C. United’s starting lineup this weekend against visiting New York after missing a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution with a foot injury.
Hamid had hurt himself during warm-ups before the U.S. national team’s friendly against Mexico last Wednesday in Phoenix and underwent testing upon his return to Washington. He resumed training with United on Tuesday.
In his absence last Saturday, Andrew Dykstra made a quality early save in his first regular season appearance in 3 1/2 years as United (1-2-1) ended the club-record winless streak at 15.
“Bill is fine,” United Coach Ben Olsen said. “He will be ready and available for Saturday.”
With his performance, Dykstra reaffirmed the No. 2 role ahead of Joe Willis, who is likely to rejoin the third-division Richmond Kickers for this weekend’s USL-Pro match at Charlotte.
*Saturday’s referee at RFK Stadium: Allen Chapman.
*Local TV: none. (NBC Sports Network had originally planned to carry the match in an afternoon window but dropped coverage. Without national TV dictating the starting time, kickoff was moved to the usual evening slot.)
*Local radio: none. (Although two games have aired, WJFK and the team have yet to finalize a contract.)
*Pay packages: Direct Kick, MLS Live.
*Live stream: dcunited.com, with Red Bulls’ MSG announcers. (Available in the Washington area only.)
*Forward Fabian Espindola served one season with the Red Bulls, posting nine goals and two assists, but did not have his contract option exercised. How does he feel about facing them for the first time since joining United?
“I was there for just one year. I don’t care about them. Another game for me.”
*Olsen, on the DCU-New York rivalry:
As a coach rather than a player, “I still respect the rivalry in a big way. To me, it’s still the oldest one this league has. It has had some amazing storylines throughout the years. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of some of the good ones and some of the bad ones on our side. For our fans, I know it’s still important to do well against them.”
