PLAYER TO WATCH
Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal
Under normal circumstances the reigning world player of the year would be in the spotlight. But he comes into this matchup of two teams ranked in the top five of the FIFA rankings facing doubts over his recovery from a recent knee injury. And the Germans are familiar with strong starts: In their 17 previous World Cup openers, they boast 12 wins and just one loss.
