The World Cup continues on Tuesday with the group-stage finales in Groups C and D.
Group D: Costa Rica vs. England in Belo Horizonte, noon (ESPN2)
Group D: Italy vs. Uruguay in Natal, noon (ESPN)
Group C: Greece vs. Ivory Coast in Fortaleza, 4 p.m. (ESPN2)
Group C: Japan vs. Colombia in Cuiaba, 4 p.m. (ESPN)
MATCH OF THE DAY
Italy vs. Uruguay
One of these traditional powers will be going home after Tuesday’s game, thanks to surprising Costa Rica powering its way to the top of the group. Italy gets through to the knockout round with a win or a draw, while only a win will help Uruguay. Whoever advances will likely claim the second-place Group D slot in the round-of-16 bracket. The two teams are fairly familiar with each other, as Italy defeated Uruguay on penalty kicks in the third-place match of last year’s Confederations Cup. Plus, Uruguay has four players who have spent some time in Italy’s Serie A. We’ll see if Azzurri Coach Cesare Prandelli inserts Ciro Immobile — who led Serie A with 22 goals last season but has played just 17 minutes in Brazil — alongside Mario Balotelli up front.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Gervinho, Ivory Coast
The Roma striker has already scored twice in Brazil, including one of the goals of the tournament against Colombia.
