Story Pick: Sohaib Athar and the tweets heard ’round the world

From the moment helicopters appeared overhead in the garrison city of Abbottabad, Pakistan, the tweets of Sohaib Athar, aka ReallyVirtual, captured the unfolding drama of the killing of Osama bin Laden in pithy and often irreverent short takes.

“Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1 AM (is a rare event)”

“Go away helicopter - before I take out my giant swatter :-/”

Athar reported the explosions, the news, the rumors and the gunfire as the story unfolded minute by minute.

Athar has now become something of a popular Twitter celebrity and even posted his own FAQ because the mainstream media kept asking him the same questions over and over.

“Bin Laden is dead. I didn’t kill him. Please let me sleep now.”
