Mass wedding ceremony added to lineup

And we thought publicity stunts were just for the MTV Music Awards.

The New York Times has reported that Madonna won’t be the only one to share the stage with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis during their performance tonight of “Same Love” with the song’s co-writer, singer Mary Lambert.  Thirty-four couples, gay and straight, will be getting hitched during the performance, and – wait for it – Queen Latifah is reportedly officiating. The generally pretty staid awards ceremony usually sticks to surprise musical pairings, but this is something else entirely.

The stunt is being billed as a statement about equality, not a small gesture seven months after California’s Proposition 8, which prohibited same-sex marriages, was effectively struck down along with the Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act.

As for the couples, inviting 40 million to your nuptials is always a good way to clean up on wedding gifts.

It’s shaping up to be a huge Grammys night for Macklemore (and don’t forget his sidekick Ryan Lewis). The Seattle rapper, who is nominated for best album and best new artist has already scored three wins in the pre-tel ceremony where the majority of the evening’s 82 awards are handed out. Breakout single “Thrift Shop” earned the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis awards for best rap song and best rap performance, and “The Heist” scored best rap album, beating out a star-studded field of Jay Z, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West.

Led Zeppelin wins best rock album

Led Zeppelin has been inactive for more than 30 years but that didn’t stop the rock-and-roll legends from taking home this year’s Grammy for best rock album. Absurd? Not by Grammys logic. The award is for “Celebration Day,” a live album recorded in 2007 at a tribute concert in honor of record label executive Ahmet Ertegun, that featured a one-off Zeppelin reunion, and was released in late 2012. (Jason Bonham played drums in place of his father, the late John Bonham.) Zeppelin’s competition wasn’t exactly a field of newcomers — Black Sabbath, Neil Young and Crazy Horse and David Bowie came up short, as did the relatively baby-faced Kings of Leon and Queens of the Stone Age.

It’s “The Colbert Report” host’s second Grammy; he previously won for best comedy album in 2010. (This year’s comedy winner was Kathy Griffin.) This year Colbert bested Carol Burnett, David Sedaris, Billy Crystal and Pete Seeger. Sorry, Billy.

LISTEN. After Bey blessed us with that beauty of an album/visual earlier this year, we all sat there just thinking: surfboard. But for her to open the Grammys with this beauty of a ditty is everything I needed. And the added wet hair look certainly doesn’t hurt. This show is not for the kids. I’m glad to see that Shawn decided to wear a bowtie tonight. That’s about as much as he’ll be contributing.

When is he going to get this together? It’s the same deal, every single award show. These bowler stupid hats are kind of a nightmare. If you have a bald head, love that bald head. I don’t know why LL keeps trying to hide that.
