Art, or science -- or both? An artist talks on physics at G Fine Art

By Blake Gopnik
A pretty woman writing love letters, as a demonstration in quantum physics? The same woman balanced on a lazy susan, to make a point about gravity? Julia Oldham's charming videos, now on show at G Fine Art in Northeast, can be a touch ... complicated, especially for those of us who went the artsy route in high school.

They involve Oldham herself illustrating famous insights or experiments in physics -- using her own body as one piece of her ultra-low-tech lab equipment. To hear how much of this is spoof, and how much dead serious, head to the gallery on Wednesday at 7 p.m., when Oldham will be in conversation with a physicist and a fellow artist.
G Fine Art is at 1350 Florida Ave. NE, just north of the H Street restaurants and clubs. Call 202-462-1601 or visit
