With fall fashion week landing in the middle of awards season, it’s difficult not to watch the presentations through the lens of the red carpet–and with good reason. Actresses seeking an of-the-moment look have been known to pluck their Oscars gowns straight from the runway.
Designers seem happy to oblige this symbiotic relationship. Over the last few days, Hollywood-ready looks have been scattered through ready-to-wear collections.
Mark Badgley and James Mischka typically have more formal shows, and this year was no exception. From a classic black bejeweled strapless piece to a blush-colored flowing chiffon gown, evening ware was central to the show.
The most critically successful seemed to be the Aztec-style detailed dresses that concluded the parade of black-tie attire.

Wang’s Fall 2013 collection veered more toward casual, with strong graphic looks and a lot of layering. But one black piece with a voluminous peplum and sheer skirt was vaguely reminiscent of Rachel Weisz’s Golden Globes dress by Louis Vuitton.

Separates dominated evening attire at Posen’s show, though a few concluding looks could translate to the Oscars with little alteration.
A deep crimson dress with sweet-heart neckline resembled the one Reese Witherspoon selected from the designer for the 2012 Golden Globes, making it a definite Oscar contender.
