Meskita Fall/Winter 2014 collection brings neoprene to Hollywood

Sunday night Brazilian designer Alessandra Meskita presented her Fall/Winter 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week. With a front row sprinkled with celebrities — Jesse Metcalfe, Cara Santana, Guillermo Diaz, or as Washingtonian’s know him, Huck from “Scandal”  — one viewer’s pre-show proclamation, “She’s going too big” seemed to ring true.

Meskita’s collection was inspired by the 100-year anniversary of Beverly Hills and the Chinese zodiac Year of the Horse. The combination is a collection of looks that mixes Hollywood glamour, sleek lines and functional fabrics, such as neoprene. Neoprene was used in many of the looks because it’s the fabric Meskita “loves to wear during the coldest months of winter because it allows her to feel sexy, feminine, and chic.”

Those happen to be a few of the traits she uses to describe the women she envisions wearing her designs. “It’s a woman that’s powerful, elegant, beautiful, sexy, that travels the world,” Meskita says. “She likes to wear nice and comfortable clothes at all occasions.”
