Chris Bohjalian to help Howard County Library raise the stacks

February 17, 2014

This isn’t your grandmother’s library fundraiser.

On Saturday, the Howard County Public Library is holding its annual “Evening in the Stacks” gala at the Charles E. Miller branch in Ellicott City. The theme this year is Vintage Vegas, but fortunately, what happens in Vintage Vegas won’t stay in Vintage Vegas. HoCo library officials expect to raise close to $100,000, which will help fund library activities all year long.

The gala’s special guest star will be Chris Bohjalian, the best-selling author of 17 books, including “Midwives,” “The Sandcastle Girls” and, most recently, “The Light in the Ruins.” I’ll be conducting a public interview with Bohjalian around 8 p.m.

The evening also will feature great food, live music, dancing and a silent auction where you can bid on airline tickets, Disney World passes, a vacation on Chincoteague Island and more.

For more information about this year’s “Evening in the Stacks,” call 410-313-7799. The Charles E. Miller Branch is at 9421 Frederick Rd in Ellicott City, Md. Tickets ($125) can be ordered in advance or purchased at the door.

Last June, the Howard County Library System was named Library of the Year by Library Journal. Howard County is regularly ranked among the wealthiest counties in the United States.
