Where to stream the 2014 Oscars live online

[Follow along with our Oscars live blog for all the news from the Academy Awards.]

Major networks are, to the delight of the cord-cutting public, gradually beginning to stream awards shows and other major events online. “Gradually” is the key word here, though. The Oscars will be streaming online tonight, for instance … but only to the residents of eight cities.

Those lucky cities are New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and Fresno, Calif. (But not D.C.? Why?!) Cable subscribers in those cities can live-stream the telecast on Oscar.com and ABC.com, provided they belong to Comcast, Cablevision, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Midcontinent Communications, Verizon FiOS, Google Fiber or AT&T U-verse.

As for the other millions of frustrated TV watchers out there, you do have options — a dogged Google search should turn them up. You can also stream the red carpet show online. But your best bet for the actual event may be to head to a local bar or restaurant that’s playing the awards show. (It’s not too late!) The Post’s Going Out Guide has compiled some great D.C. options here.
