We’re still a few months away from the time when networks have to officially decide which shows to pick up and which ones to cancel for the 2014-2015 season, but Fox is getting a jump on things: “Raising Hope” has been canceled, the network announced on Monday, while fellow comedies “New Girl,” “Mindy Project” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” have been picked up for another season.
“Raising Hope” has been a decent performer on Friday nights (though it slipped to less than 2 million total viewers recently) but the fact that it lasted four seasons is a miracle in itself. However, Fox is known to support its shows with mediocre numbers: See the pick-ups for the comedies above, which have never had very high ratings.
The always-quirky “Raising Hope,” about a 20-something guy who gets a newborn daughter when his one-night stand winds up on death row, will sign off for good on Friday, April 4, with a one-hour series finale. “We planned our Season Four finale with this possibility in mind, and hope our loyal fans enjoy the way we’ve chosen to say goodbye to the Chances and to Natesville,” said executive producer Mike Mariano in a statement. “Thanks again, and we’ll see you in syndication.”
Meanwhile, “New Girl,” “Mindy” and “Brooklyn” will live to see another season, picked up for a fourth, third and second year respectively. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” was never really in danger, as it won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy; and Zooey Deschanel vehicle “New Girl” is a steady performer. “Mindy,” starring Mindy Kaling as an OB/GYN who thinks of life as her own personal romantic comedy, was more on the bubble, but pulled through. (She thanked Fox’s chairman for entertainment in a tweet.)

And if you’re into Fox dramas, good news: Kevin Bacon’s “The Following” has also been renewed for a third season. Previously announced Fox shows also coming back include “Sleepy Hollow” (for Season 2), “Glee” (for Season 6) and “Bones” (for Season 10, the final one).
Here’s a guide to what else has been canceled and renewed in the midseason.
