James Rebhorn dies at age 65: A look back at his movie, TV roles

Veteran character actor James Rebhorn, who appeared in countless TV shows and movies over the last three decades, died Friday at age 65 after battling melanoma. “He died on Friday at home with his loving family in attendance,” his rep said in a statement to CNN on Sunday.

Rebhorn was always ones of those actors who would come on screen and people would swear they recognized him from a million other things. Indeed, he appeared in many TV shows, and was currently starring as the father of bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) on Showtime’s hit “Homeland,” in addition to a stint as an FBI agent himself on USA’s “White Collar.” He recently also appeared on HBO’s canceled-but critically-adored drama “Enlightened” as a wealthy CEO that Laura Dern’s character was determined to bring to justice.

Rebhorn’s movie work included small roles in “My Cousin Vinny” (1992), “Scent of a Woman” (1992), “Independence Day” (1996) and “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999). On the TV side, he also appeared on “30 Rock,” “The Good Wife,” “Royal Pains” and many more; and in one famous role, he was the D.A. who sent the “Seinfeld” gang to jail on the series finale.

In an obituary, The Post’s Terence McArdle wrote, “Mr. Rebhorn was often typecast as WASP-ish businessmen, lawyers and cabinet ministers — powerful men whose dignified appearance often hid eccentricities, menace or even insanity.”

On Sunday, actors already started paying tribute to Rebhorn:
