Two days after being arrested on disorderly conduct charges at their home over the weekend, married singers Paul Simon and Edie Brickell downplayed their dispute in court Monday.

Appearing at the Norwalk Superior Court in Connecticut, the couple held hands and told the judge (and reporters) that they had a rare spat Saturday night, but everything’s fine now.

“We had an argument, which is atypical of us. Neither of us has any fear, or any reason to be threatened,” Simon told the judge, according to the New York Daily News, adding that the two had plans to go watch their son’s baseball game that afternoon. Brickell said: “He’s no threat to me at all.”

Simon, 72, and Brickell, 47, were arrested at their New Canaan, Conn., house after police officers were called to investigate “a family dispute” and “found probable cause to arrest” them, according to ABC News, citing police.

Quoting the police chief, the AP reported that “officers who responded found minor injuries and believed it was a case of domestic violence,” and that there was “aggressiveness on both sides.” The AP added that the couple’s attorney called the incident “very minor, though there was a slight shove” and didn’t elaborate more than that.

In a statement via her lawyer, Brickell told CNN that she started the argument. “I got my feelings hurt and I picked a fight with my husband. …The police called it disorderly. Thank God it’s orderly now,” Brickell said.

The Grammy-winning Simon, of course, first became famous as half of the 1960s duo Simon and Garfunkel, and has continued to loom large in the music world; he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Brickell is a folk rock singer known for her band the New Bohemians, which had a big debut in the ’80s.

The couple, who have been married since 1992 and have three children, must return to court May 16.
