A hip-hop dance crew brought silent movies to life in incredible detail. Here’s the video.

At one of the country’s most competitive hip-hop dance-offs, a crew called Cookies Dance Team took the stage in 1920s costumes and black-and-white makeup with an old-timey backing track and intricate choreography. The effect: a completely unexpected, amazingly accurate silent movie crafted through dance.

The whole thing is worth watching, but skip to the four-minute mark if you want to see it really kick off.

The amazing performance took place at the annual Body Rock competition in June; not surprisingly, Cookies won first prize.

And if you’re wondering how the dancers created such an effective grayscale look, take a peek at the makeup in this photo posted by the group. That is some serious attention to detail.
