National Signing Day: A look at Maryland recruit Albert Reid

Maryland improved its depth at running back with the addition of Albert Reid of Friendship Collegiate Academy.

The D.C. Gatorade Player of the Year is expected to be in the mix for playing time with returnee Justus Pickett and fellow signee Wes Brown, among others. Maryland’s depth at the position took a hit with the departure of senior Davin Meggett and the transfer of D.J. Adams and Jeremiah Wilson.

Reid had originally committed to West Virginia during the summer but reneged on his commitment in December, according to reports. Reid made an oral commitment to Maryland in January. Iowa and Vanderbilt were other finalists for Reid’s services.

Reid told Keith Cavanaugh of that he wants to major in mechanical engineering.

“I think Coach Edsall is doing a good job, and he is close to turning the program around,” Reid told the Web site. “He is doing a good job of recruiting, so I think probably this year coming up, this season will be a whole different season [than last season].”
