Police say Maryland WR Ronnie Tyler was involved in off-campus altercation

Police say Maryland wide receiver Ronnie Tyler was involved in an altercation very early on Thursday morning near the University of Maryland campus.

Tyler and fellow wide receiver Quintin McCree were suspended indefinitely by Terrapins Coach Randy Edsall on Thursday night.

A police officer heard an apparent argument outside the 7-Eleven on the 4400 block of Knox Road in College Park, University Police spokesperson Capt. Marc Limansky said in a telephone interview.

The officer saw Ronnie Tyler punch a 33-year-old male in the face, Limansky said. When Tyler saw the officer, he fled on foot. The officer pursued Tyler to Allegany Hall, where he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor second-degree assault. The 33-year-old man, whom police say is not a Maryland student, suffered “minor injuries” to his face and refused medical treatment, Limansky said.

Limansky said that Quintin McCree, who was also suspended, was at the scene but was not involved in the altercation.

Tyler has a court date set for Nov. 1.
