Terps sign Aussie kicker Brad Craddock

Maryland football added some international flavor to its roster, adding Australian punter-place kicker Brad Craddock to its roster.

The Adelaide native learned how to punt while playing Australian Rules Football. He will have four years of eligibility.

On Maryland’s spring depth chart, Michael Tart is listed as the Terrapins’ starting place kicker and Nathan Renfro is listed as the punter. Tart made 2 of 3 extra-point attempts and averaged 34 yards on three punts last season (all in the season finale vs. N.C. State), while Redfro redshirted. But senior Nick Ferrara, who handled place kicking, kickoffs and punts last season, will be back to handle at least one of those jobs.

As Paul Myerberg (@PreSnapRead) points out, there are now at least three Aussies punting in the Football Bowl Subdivision: LSU all-American Brad Wing and Memphis’s Tom Hornsey are the others.

After spending the first 17 years of his Post career writing and editing, Matt and the printed paper had an amicable divorce in 2014. He's now blogging and editing for the Early Lead and the Post's other Web-based products.
