Terrapins hire Vaughn as assistant baseball coach

Robert Vaughn has been hired as an assistant on the Maryland baseball staff, Coach John Szefc announced on Thursday.

Vaughn was a volunteer assistant for the last two seasons at Kansas State, where he coached the catchers and was the base-running instructor. Vaughn started at catcher for the Wildcats for three seasons and helped them reach the NCAA tournament for the first time in 2009.

“Rob is an outstanding young coach,” Szefc said in a statement. “He’s very good at coaching catchers and hitters. For a guy that didn’t have a bunch of speed as a player, he’s a great base running coach. He’s got a ton of energy and wants to be a real player on the recruiting front and has been waiting for the opportunity.”
