Maryland picked sixth in preseason ACC hoops poll

October 15, 2012

Maryland was voted sixth in the first-ever ACC coaches preseason poll announced Monday, receiving 78 points and slotting near the middle of the pack.

A new-look Terps team, rife with young talent and loaded with depth in the front court, was well behind fifth-place Florida State and fourth-place Miami, which were one vote apart from each other.

North Carolina State, with eight first-place votes, was picked as the preseason favorite. The Wolfpack return four starters from their Sweet Sixteen team, including preseason Player of the Year C.J. Leslie and Lorenzo Brown, both juniors selected to the preseason all-ACC team. N.C. State freshman Rodney Purvis was chosen as the Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year.

Other members of the preseason all-ACC team included North Carolina sophomore James Michael McAdoo, Duke senior Mason Plumlee and Florida State senior Michael Snaer.

Duke, picked second, received three first-place votes, while North Carolina received one first-place vote and was picked third.
