The Maryland football team’s injury plague — and the various conspiracy theories behind it — finally became too much for A.J. Francis. (Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post)
Never one to shy away from his opinions, Maryland defensive lineman A.J. Francis took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to explain why, in the wake of Demetrius Hartsfield’s season-ending ACL tear, the rash of Terps injuries this season are merely coincidental. He also had some harsh words for the NCAA’s policy concerning the legal cut block that fell Maryland’s leading tackler against Georgia Tech.
Take it away, A.J.:
The news about my brother @hartofthecity9 breaks my heart… I love you bro. #RocBoys

Football is violent… Ppl get injured… It happens. Coaches, Strength & Conditioning, Turf Field, none of that has anything to do with it.

It’s more about how it’s legal to dive through someone’s knees as a blocker… Can’t hit the QB too hard tho………….
— A.J. Francis (@The_Franchyze) November 5, 2012
#NCAA talks about how they “care” about player safety, yet they pass rules this year making the Triple Option more legal to run…….

When you get high-lowed the ref doesn’t have to throw the flag if they do it, but if he thinks they meant to do it maliciously………
— A.J. Francis (@The_Franchyze) November 5, 2012
If you think I’m lying, ask any college ref… We went over it in our preseason meetings… #NCAA is full of hypocrisy… But I’m sleep doe.

No… RT @jimmy_bare: @the_franchyze after a while though doesn’t it seem to be a little too much just to be a coincidence?
— A.J. Francis (@The_Franchyze) November 5, 2012
Meat got his knees dove through, Perry got blocked in the back & folded, Caleb got hit while planted, CJ made a really fast cut……..
— A.J. Francis (@The_Franchyze) November 5, 2012
Other than CJ’s injury, all of those have more to do with the other person involved in the hit… CJ’s was just bad luck.
— A.J. Francis (@The_Franchyze) November 5, 2012
Not to mention Devin & Marcus broke bones in their fee while being tackled…
— A.J. Francis (@The_Franchyze) November 5, 2012
So hearing these injuries have something to do with our strength staff or our turf field is not only idiotic but insulting….
