Maryland football vs. North Carolina: Open discussion thread

(Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post)

Greetings from sunny, cloudless Chapel Hill, N.C., and beautiful Kenan Stadium, where the Maryland football team is playing its season finale against North Carolina. The Terps enter on a five-game losing streak, looking to conclude an otherwise disappointing, injury-ravaged 2012 on a high note. The Tar Heels, meanwhile, banned themselves from postseason contention, so are also merely playing for pride on Saturday afternoon.

No surprises on the Maryland travel roster. Linebacker Darin Drakeford, out with a concussion, made the trip, while linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield did not. Hartsfield was expected to have surgery to repair his torn ACL this past week. With Levern Jacobs (shoulder) off the travel roster, the Terps have just five receivers: Stefon Diggs, Nigel King, Tyrek Cheeseboro, Kevin Dorsey and James Bowman.

Defensive lineman Joe Vellano, who has played with a badly sprained ankle since the Georgia Tech game and was listed as doubtful this week, took part in pregame agility exercises with his teammates. Wouldn’t be too surprising if Vellano suited up and at least played a series or two to wrap up his illustrious Maryland career.
