Maryland’s Chloe Pavlech named ACC rookie of the week

Freshman point guard Chloe Pavlech was named ACC rookie of the week Monday after helping the 10th-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team to a pair of victories.

Pavlech scored 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting with with three assists and two rebounds in an 85-59 victory over No. 11 North Carolina Jan. 24 at Comcast Center. Pavlech, who became the starter after Brene Moseley tore her ACL during a preseason scrimmage, also went 2 of 3 from three-point range.

In Sunday’s 80-40 road victory against Clemson, Pavlech had a game-high seven assists and five points as Maryland (17-3, 8-1 ACC) won its seventh consecutive game and for the 13th time in 14 games.

Pavlech’s three highest scoring games this season have come against ranked opponents. In addition to her performance against the Tar Heels, she had a career-high 20 points in a an 84-62 victory over then-No. 24 Miami and 10 points in a 63-48 loss to No. 3 Connecticut in Hartford.
