Maryland travels to Ohio State in 2013 ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Before leaping conferences in 2014, Maryland’s basketball farewell tour will include an enticing matchup in its final ACC-Big Ten Challenge, at least while still on the ACC’s side.

The Terrapins will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State on Dec. 4, the conferences announced Wednesday afternoon. The Buckeyes ranked sixth in the final USA Today coaches poll, came four points short of reaching the Final Four and return all but one contributor (leading scorer DeShaun Thomas).

Maryland, which has gone on the road for four of the past five challenges, becomes just the second team to twice travel in consecutive years since the event began in 1999. North Carolina, which visited Indiana last winter and will face Michigan State in East Lansing next season, is the other.

The Terps dropped Northwestern 77-57 last season in Evanston, Ill. They last met the Buckeyes on Nov. 30, 1985. Len Bias played 39 minutes and scored 23 points.

The final pairings are below. Virginia Tech, Clemson and Wake Forest were left out. All games will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. The ACC holds a 10-3-1 all-time record versus the Big Ten in challenges.
