Maryland football receives second commitment from a Pennsylvania recruit in two days

For the second straight day, the Maryland football team received an oral commitment from a Pennsylvania defensive player, this time scoring a pledge from linebacker Tyler Burke, a three-star prospect from Coatesville Area High School, according to multiple reports.

Burke had told several recruiting websites that he was between Rutgers and Maryland, and reportedly was visiting College Park when he committed. He also had offers from North Carolina State and Connecticut, among others, according to 247sports.com.

Monday, defensive lineman Brett Kulka offered his commitment, choosing from mostly non-BCS offers. So after getting two Pennsylvania commitments in less than 24 hours, Coach Randy Edsall offered this not-so-cryptic tweet:

Burke becomes the seventh member of Maryland’s class of 2014, one that now includes three players from Pennsylvania. Spring Grove’s David Shaw gave his oral commitment on June 3.

According to 247sports.com, assistant coach John Dunn handled Burke’s recruitment. Per ESPN, Burke made 17 solo tackles and recovered two fumbles in Coatesville’s state championship game loss. Per Terrapin Times, Burke has been projected as a middle linebacker in Maryland’s 3-4 defensive scheme, though he’s shown the versatility to pass rush off the edge.

UPDATE: Terrapin Times is reporting that three-star offensive lineman Brendan Moore from Austin also committed to Maryland today. For those counting, that makes three in the past 24 hours, and a Texas recruit, of which the Terps currently have one — walk-on quarterback Dustin Dailey. According to 247sports.com, Moore had offers from Boise State and Missouri, among others.
