For the first time in his young and already brilliant career, Maryland receiver Stefon Diggs was named the ACC receiver of the week. As a true freshman last season, Diggs earned rookie of the week honors twice and specialist of the week once, but it took a career-high 179 receiving yards to earn the relatively elusive third award.
Diggs caught six passes against Old Dominion, including two for 41 yards. The first, a leaping snatch in the Monarchs red zone, helped set up a rushing touchdown from running back Brandon Ross. Diggs later caught a go-screen, shook off one defender, stiff-armed another, high-stepped down the sideline and somersaulted into the end zone for his second touchdown of the season. His 179 yards were the most by a Terrapins receiver since Torrey Smith had 224 on Nov. 27, 2010.
After nearly topping 100 yards in the opener, Diggs ranks second in the ACC with 138.5 receiving yards per game, second with 25.2 yards per catch, sixth in receptions and first in all-purpose yards. His 277 total receiving yards ranks fifth nationally.
