Field hockey

The No. 2-ranked Terrapins improved to 8-0 with two victories last weekend, a 4-1 win over No. 15 Wake Forest on Friday and a 2-0 win over Michigan on Sunday. Jill Witmer, Anna Dessoye, Ali McEvoy and Katie Gerzabek scored against the Demon Deacons, and  goalkeeper Natalie Hunter and Maryland’s defense kept the Wolverines off the board, even with the Terrapins down a player because of yellow card accumulation.

Witmer was named Terp of the Week. She will miss this weekend’s games — Maryland plays at No. 17 Boston College on Friday at 7 p.m., and then at No. 7 Massachusetts on Sunday at 1 p.m. — because she is in Mendoza, Argentina, competing with the U.S.  national team at the Pan American Games.

Men’s soccer

Senior Patrick Mullins scored two penalty-kick goals as visiting Maryland defeated Clemson, 3-1, on Saturday night. The Terrapins followed that up with a 1-1 home draw with Old Dominion on Tuesday.

Maryland (2-2-3, 2-0-1 ACC), ranked 14th by Soccer America, hosts Pittsburgh on Friday night.

Women’s soccer

Maryland opened ACC play on Sept. 19 with a 2-0 loss to Virginia Tech, but the Terps bounced by defeating Wake Forest, 1-0, on Sunday, handing the Demon Deacons their first loss of the season. Senior Hayley Brock scored the lone goal of the Wake Forest match in the fourth minute.

The 22nd-ranked Terrapins travel to No. 3 Notre Dame on Thursday night at 7 and then visit top-ranked Virginia on Sunday at 2.

Volleyball

The Terrapins dropped matches to Ohio, Michigan and Marshall at last weekend’s Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor. Maryland (8-4) hosts Georgia Tech on Friday night at 7 and Clemson on Sunday at 2. The match against the Tigers will be streamed on TerpsTV.
