The Terrapins moved up from receiving the third-most votes among unranked last week to No. 25 despite having a bye week. This sets up a top-25 showdown next Saturday at No. 8 Florida State, with kickoff at noon on ESPN.
Maryland was ranked 23rd after drubbing East Carolina in the 2010 Military Bowl, and received votes after Edsall’s first game, a 32-24 home win over Miami. But the Terps haven’t sniffed the rankings since until this season’s 4-0 start. They haven’t been ranked during the regular season since 2008.
No. 3 Clemson and No. 14 Miami are the other ACC schools to make the list this week. Maryland’s 119 votes were 15 more than Northern Illinois, the first team outside the top 25. Virginia Tech also appeared on the list with 49 votes, second among unranked teams.
Maryland moved up in the latest USA Today coaches poll, too, still outside the top 25 but receiving the fourth-most votes among non-ranked teams, up from seventh-most last week.
