No. 1 Maryland field hockey grinds out two wins over top 10 teams

Field hockey

The top-ranked Terrapins beat No. 9 Boston College, 3-2, on Friday and No. 13 Massachusetts, 4-1, on Sunday. With the two road wins, Maryland moved to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in ACC play.

Against the Eagles, the Terrapins trailed twice, but sophomore Sarah Sprink answered both times with goals off of penalty corners to tie the score. Sophomore Alyssa Parker then scored the game-winner with 17 minutes to play. Against the Minutemen, sophomore Anna Dessoye scored twice, and redshirt freshman Emma Rissinger and senior Hayley Turner also added goals.

The Terps travel to No. 3 North Carolina on Saturday at 1 before returning home to face Hofstra on Tuesday night at 7.

Men’s soccer

Senior Jake Pace scored twice to give Maryland a 2-0 win over ACC newcomer Pittsburgh at Ludwig Field on Friday night. The Terps followed that up with a 2-1 home victory over Tulsa on Tuesday night, with Patrick Mullins providing the deciding goal on a penalty kick in the 54th minute.

Maryland (4-2-3, 3-0-1), ranked 13th by Soccer America, host Boston College on Friday night at 7:30 before traveling to second-ranked Notre Dame on Tuesday night at 7.

Women’s soccer

Maryland fell to top-ranked Virginia, 1-0, on Sunday in a rematch of last season’s ACC title game, but the Terrapins bounced back in a 3-0 home win over North Carolina State on Thursday. Freshman Natasha Ntone-Kouo’s first career goal was all Maryland needed to defeat the Wolfpack.

The Terrapins (7-5, 2-2) travel to sixth-ranked North Carolina on Sunday afternoon at 1.

Volleyball

Senior Mary Cushman and sophomore Emily Fraik each recorded double-doubles as  Maryland earned a five-set victory (25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 19-25, 16-14) over visiting Georgia Tech on Friday night. Maryland Coach Tim Horsmon earned his 300th career win. The Terrapins followed that up with a four-set loss to Clemson on Sunday in College Park.

The Terrapins host Virginia on Friday at 7 and Virginia Tech on Sunday at 2.
