Maryland-Syracuse scheduled for 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Nov. 9

October 28, 2013

The Maryland football team will open the final third of its season with another 3:30 p.m. kickoff, returning from a second bye week to host Syracuse on Nov. 9.

Three ACC games — Virginia Tech at Miami, Florida State at Wake Forest and Notre Dame at Pittsburgh — received a six-day option from ESPN, but the Terrapins were spared from waiting nearly an extra week. The 3:30 p.m. start will be their fourth in five conference games to date. But for the first time this season, the game will be broadcast on Regional Sports Networks, in this case Comcast SportsNet.

Maryland sank to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the ACC with a 40-27 loss to Clemson on Saturday, though a spirited defense kept things close well through halftime. It expects quarterback C.J. Brown (trunk injury) and starting cornerback Jeremiah Johnson (fractured toe) to return from their respective injuries, bolstering a thin, battered lineup with some veteran experience.

The Orange (3-4, 1-2 ACC) spent this Saturday on a bye, recovering from their 56-0 blowout loss at Georgia Tech on Oct. 19. Their lone conference win came on the road at North Carolina State, 24-10. Syracuse hosts Wake Forest at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.

After the Syracuse game, Maryland closes its season by visiting Virginia Tech, hosting Boston College and traveling to North Carolina State. The Terps remain one victory away from bowl eligibility.
