SCOUTING REPORT

>> The first defensive recruit for Maryland’s class of 2014, Shaw committed on June 3, 2013, over the phone. At the time, little information existed on the Internet or recruiting Web sites, but Coach Randy Edsall grew up 10 miles away from Spring Grove High School and often competed against the team while he was a teenager.

>> He is nicknamed “Frankenshaw” and projects as a nose guard for the Terps. He had previously taken an unofficial visit to Penn State but, according to 247sports, held no other offers.

>> Spring Grove’s football coach, Russ Stoner, played at Towson with Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, but Shaw’s recruitment was led by tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator John Dunn.
