The Maryland men’s basketball team will travel to Michigan State for its first-ever Big Ten game, according to the full schedule released by the school on Thursday.
Maryland, which finished 17-15 and 9-9 in the ACC in its final season in that league, will make its formal entrance into Big Ten play when it meets the Spartans in East Lansing on Dec. 30. The Terps’ Big Ten home opener will come four days later against Minnesota. They will host Michigan State two weeks later.
Maryland will play at least 10 teams that advanced to last season’s NCAA tournament.
Other notable games include a Jan. 29 trip to Ohio State and back-to-back home games against Wisconsin and Michigan in late February. The contest against the Badgers will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24 and broadcast by ESPN as part of the network’s Super Tuesday schedule.
“We are excited to begin our inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference,” Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon said in a statement. “The Big Ten has been one of the best conferences over the past few years. We have a tremendous Big Ten schedule and a great home schedule for our fans. In addition, we’re looking to hosting one of our longtime rivals Virginia in nonconference play.”
Maryland will open the regular season Nov. 14 at home against Wagner. That will kick off a nonconference slate that includes a trip to Kansas City for the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, where the Terps will meet Arizona State on Nov. 24. Maryland will meet Virginia on Dec. 3 at home in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and its toughest road test on the non-league season will come in Stillwater against Oklahoma State on Dec. 21.
Game times and broadcast information are to be determined unless otherwise noted.
