NCAA tournament: The craziest Final Four ever

This Final Four is the biggest surprise since the field expanded to 64 in 1985. Here are a few reasons why:

  • * It is only the second national semifinal since 1985 to not include a single No. 1 seed (2006 was the other).
  • * It is the third to include a double-digit seed (No. 11 George Mason in 2006 and No. 11 LSU in 1986).
  • * It is the only Final Four to feature more than one mid-major.
  • * The combined seeds of the four teams is 26 (an average seeding of 6.5), the highest ever.
  • * One of the games - No. 8 Butler vs. No. 11 VCU - features the highest combined seeding (19) of any Final Four matchup ever.
