The winning bidder will be invited to attend the Sports Legends Museum Gala on Sept. 5 where Ripken and fellow Hall of Famer Eddie Murray will be honored and to Ripken’s statue unveiling on Sept. 6.
Hunt Auctions will oversee the transaction and estimates the vehicle’s value at more than $50,000. The auction will close to initial bidding at 8 p.m. on Aug. 28.
Ripken will personally hand over the keys to his 1994 Chevy Suburban, which he drove to Oriole Park on Sept. 5, 1995 the night he tied Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games played record, and on Sept. 6, 1995 when he broke the same record.

Fall 2012 fashion trends: What to wear
With the presidential election ramping up and Redskins preseason football beginning, it’s evident that fall is rapidly approaching. The shift to cooler temperatures means a few wardrobe adjustments are necessary, and local bloggers Alison Gary of Wardrobe Oxygen has some tips on the most popular fashion trends of fall 2012.
“Last fall designers took the summer colorblocking trend up a notch with monoblocking. Runways had models sporting one-color outfits from head to toe, or varying intensities of the same hue. This trend has returned for fall, but in one specific color – white.”

D.C. farmers markets full of unusual finds, says Borderstan.com

Customers look for vegetables early in the morning at the Ward 8 Farmers Market Cooperative on July 28.
(Tracy A. Woodward - THE WASHINGTON POST)
As the summer rolls along, the D.C. region’s farmers market scene is in full swing. With over 140 markets to pick from, it’s not uncommon for shoppers to encounter unfamiliar produce.
Borderstan
has been keeping track of some of the more unusual offerings found at local farm stands throughout the season and has put together a comprehensive list.
“Canary Melon – yellow and vibrant as the name suggests, canary melon is like a cantaloupe on steroids. The meat is juicier and sweeter than other melons, which I often find bland and disappointing. They are also relatively inexpensive and can be used in typical melon recipes.”

(Brian Witte - AP)
Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley’s proposal to build a Las Vegas style casino in Prince George’s County
cleared its first hurdle Thursday, when a special panel voted 11-1 to have the legislation debated in the state’s Senate. Despite pleas from the operator of Ann Arundel’s
Maryland Live! casino, the measure is expected to be passed before facing a much tougher debate in House of Delegates. In analysis of the legislation,
Maryland Reporter.com
sees a problem with one key argument in favor of building the Prince George’s casino: new construction jobs.
But even if the billpasses both Senate and House – and the House is still a big question mark – none of the construction jobs will be showing up for at least two years and most of the permanent jobs won’t appear until O’Malley has long departed the State House.
