Happy Monday, everyone. Here are our picks for the top five local stories you should know about this morning.

Are jack-o-lanterns in jeopardy? We’re still more than a month out from Halloween, but you may want to get your gourds early this year. Farmers are saying that pumpkin crops took a beating this summer from Hurricane Irene and other storms.

In what may be the saddest story of the morning, a one-year-old baby drowned in a bathtub in a hotel room in Reston Sunday night. Fairfax County police are investigating the death.
