Save the MLK dedication date, run with the brides and avoid certain flash mobs

Good morning. Now, I don’t care about the royal wedding any more than local columnist Petula Dvorak does, but I know I’ll be an outlier today. In the off chance that you are throbbing with the zeigeist .... here’s the big link.

Reserve Aug. 28 now — that’s when the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. monument is scheduled. To attend, you have to win an online lottery, and you have to register at DedicateTheDream.org by 11:59 p.m. on May 31 — just a month away.

But can I get a taxi when I need one? Firing the head of the DC Taxicab Commission apparently fulfilled a mayoral campaign promise to taxi owners, Mike DeBonis reports.

Flash mobs are usually innocuous (such as the Beyonce

“flash mob” dance planned on the National Mall tonight) but here’s what looks like a robbery conducted under the cover of a flash mob at a DuPont Circle store.

Coming up:

Now that the storms have passed, it’s one of the busiest weekends of the year for outdoor festivals. The Going Out Guide staff also offer a best events list for you, even tips tailored to your neighborhood.

There is so much more on PostLocal, I can’t even get into it this morning. There are stories about a misbehaving teacher, unsafe prison guards, traffic and subway delays... there will be video of Filene’s annual Running of the Brides shortly. Just check back, OK?
